@ThylacineAlive The sea has receded in the past thousand years, so that the town of Old Romney, just past the right hand or western border of the photo, which was one of the historic Cinque Ports, is now well inland. This change is associated with the development of the gravel spit at Dungeness further to the west. But Romney Marsh has a long history, it was famous for the quality of its sheep and the industry of its smugglers.
