I love the idea of the stepping stones but I'm not sure that I've ever seen anything quite like it in a Canadian or American zoo. I can just imagine someone in the USA suing a zoo because they fell into two inches of water. :) America is an extremely litigious society, with lawsuits being filed daily for ridiculous reasons.

I believe Maryland has a concept similar to this.

Although I cannot cite examples, this is a very common landscape feature even in North America. When you think about it, how does it pose any greater risk or annoyance than a puddle?
