I don't get it. I mean it looks as though it is meant for visitors to climb inside - there is even a step to get in - but there is no view once you are inside. What is the purpose?
@Arizona Docent obviously never visited because if you had you would know it does give you a view of part of the enclosure, admittedly the picture doesn't show this but then if it had you would be looking at the back of the jeep!
Is the view from a distance? The vehicle seems to be a ways off from the exhibit. Does the exhibit connect directly to the side of the vehicle in a way that I am not seeing? Just curious.
Yes but why would it be advantageous to view the exhibit from the jeep it is a couple of metres back from where the exhibit actually starts. You could just stand on the path and view it without the stupid grate in the windshield...
And @Arizona Docent doesn't need to have been to the Wild Place to see that this is a waste of a couple of thousand quid.
Yes that is my confusion - what is the advantage? Whenever I have seen these viewing setups at other zoos, the Land Rover is directly connected to the exhibit wall, not set back from it. In those other scenarios, the animals (usually lions or hyenas but in this case geladas) would be right up against the window of the vehicle, with part of the vehicle in the visitor side and part extending into the exhibit. In this case I suppose they just did it for a fun thematic element to let kids have something to climb into.
It looks nice and fills up abit of wasted space is the only reason I can think of,but then you are thinking as an American visitor and not a UK visitor,as this sort of thing is very new to us in the UK,and to my thinking is totally useless and a waste of time and money, but then what do I know!
