Volcano rabbits are small, fast and often active at night, it would be very difficult to see them in their natural habitat, which is restricted to 3 protected areas, all near the metropolitan area of mexico city. These are Mount Popocatepetl, Mount Iztacihuatl and Mount Ajusco. It is much easier to see them in the mexico city zoos.
Do you know if there has been any success in breeding. I have noticed that many species of rabbit are extremely endangered. For example the Riverine Rabbit is number 9 on EDGE.
