"Why are you keeping a torsat," scoffed many of my friends when they saw this thing in my aquarium. Torsat is the local name for Walking Catfish, of which we have a few native species in Singapore, but all have been outcompeted by the invasive African Sharptooth Catfish (Clarias gariepinus). Torsat are often sold as tiny, tadpole-sized animals by the bagful as feeder fish, and are often touted as being a great growth stimulant for predatory fish.

This animal was being held on loan to me by the National University of Singapore, and has since been returned, as it was approaching the size that they required it to be at.
