The swamp housing the park's large group of American Alligators (Alligator mississippiensis) and a couple American Crocodiles (Crocodylus acutus) provides a safe haven for numerous nesting native birds, including Little Blue Heron (Egretta caerulea), Tricolored Heron (Egretta tricolor), and Roseate Spoonbill (Ajaja ajaja) all of which I observed on my visit.
