@Rizz Carlton I cannot recall which hornbill species were in the walk-through as @twilighter and I saw a couple of hundred hornbills on our Southeast Asian trip as that type of bird is absolutely everywhere. Some zoos would have at least a half-dozen or more hornbill aviaries.
I’m quite surprised they have the larger hornbills as part of a walkthrough exhibits. Is the aviary relatively big enough to prevent any aggressions to the visitors?
@honeybadger all the three main safari parks have wreathed hornbills (At some point also black hornbill and oriental pied hornbill) in their walkthrough aviary if I'm correct. The walkthrough aviary in the parks in Cisarua and Prigen are quite large, especially the former. The hornbill in the walkthrough aviary in Bali are housed in the Rainforest Trek aviary, which was established in around 2022 but aren't exactly big enough for multiple species aside from the hornbills and other birds. Though it need to be noted that most hornbills in Indonesian zoos are trained and already accustomed to human interaction, making incidents related to hornbills to be fairly rare.
