Wallaroo/Wallaby/Emu Exhibit

This exhibit here was built in the 1940s and with its original purpose being to house Giraffes,kangaroos,wallaroos,and Malayan tapirs all in one exhibit.

Did this ever actually occur? Why would they bother with such a bizarre combination?
 
Guide book from the 70s lists that. Apparently they just didn't know where else to put em. Giraffes moved out when the african plains were built. No idea about the tapirs though. Woodland park had ALOT and I mean ALOT of bizarre combinations back in the day. Wooly monkeys and black bear cubs being one such example.
