Although it was great to see walruses back in Hamburg again, it is sad that none of the adults have tusks; hopefully the young walrus, which still has its tusks, will eventually develop a fine set of tusks.
The previous Hamburg walrus “Antje” had the most impressive tusks of any captive walrus that I’ve ever seen; I was fortunate enough to see her several times at Hagenbecks in years gone by (and on my last visit to Hamburg I saw her mounted in the Hamburg Zoology Museum).
