from different stock. The animals in this photo either died off or were sent elsewhere. There were no buffalo at Orana for probably ten years or more, then they got in two (?) new ones quite recently (within the last ten years I think). At the time I'd heard they'd imported them from Australia, but the story I've heard lately is that they came from the West Coast. Not sure which is the true one (potentially its a bit of both: a farmer on the West Coast importing them from Australia and then Orana buying some of his stock later). This paddock doesn't exist any more either: it was near to the spider monkey island.
