It struck me that someone at Zoo New England must really like cranes. Across the Franklin Park Zoo and Stone Zoo site they have:
Hooded Crane,
Wattled Crane,
White-naped Crane,
Black-necked Crane,
Whooping Crane.
So quite a few uncommon crane species and quite a large number of species considering the size of the zoos.
@NNM. an enthusiastic curator or former curator perhaps? They also have some uncommon stork species and zoologically-uncommon Kori Bustards which might fit into the same avicultural category.
That's a great photo of the whole family! There are certain zoos that seem to appreciate cranes and the New England zoos are part of that! Other zoos with 5 or more crane species include San Antonio, Dallas, Zoo Tampa, Jacksonville, Birmingham, Richmond, the Smithsonian, and of course the International Crane Foundation, which has all 15 species.
