Beautiful creature. Are they doing okay conservation-wise? If they are getting into your garage, hopefully they are a common neighborhood creature in no conservation danger?
Weta conservation status depends to a great extent on their size. So the Giant and Tusked Weta are mostly pretty large and can't survive alongside rats very well - those species tend to be rare and often restricted to offshore islands or isolated areas. The Cave and Ground Weta are small and mostly common. Tree Weta are mid-sized but most species are still common and widespread (in natural habitats and gardens), probably because they live in harem-systems inside crevices where rats can't get them and the males are very aggressive.
