It was announced that he is soon moving to Howletts to lead a new breeding group. 'Matadi' was born at Twycross and moved to Paignton after his father 'Sekondi' died and 'Oumbie' took his place. Three of his grandparents were wild-caught and he is genetically very important.

He will be the first male Gorilla to join the Howletts groups from outside the Parks, since they were originally formed in the 1960/70's era. He's also only the third male they have ever got from another Zoo(the others being their very first male Kulu- from Basel, and their first breeding male Kisoro, from Lincoln Park Chicago).
