Absolutely , I agree completely , its been put off three times now , its very disapointing. The Emu that were also going to be placed in the same area have suddenly been put on the surplus list to go!! Very strange as they have not been here long. The main reason for not allowing the roos access to the "rhea/Capy" paddock is because of the fenceline which is inadequate for containing them and raising it is not an option because it would impare the public viewing! Its a great shame , they would benefit from some grazing. There would be other options to alter the fencline to make it possible without raising the level but it would be costly over such a vast area. Its not impossible but difficult to do logistically. Z.
Well, what costs were the problem with transferring the roos to above Encounter Village? Was it the fencing, seeing how it seems to low for them over there at the mo.
The costs to transfer the roos and redevelope that area for them were not large compared to other projects , it was just the timing of it which clashed with the building of the new restaurant and valley enclosure project unfortunately, but I agree with you it is a shame and dispointing after we were told three times that it would be done then told it wasnt going to be done! Yes the Emus are on the surplus list but whether they will actually go remains to be seen I think. I like them so that too is a shame. Z.
Are there are any other immminent plans to do something with the Australian walk-through thing? Or will it just be Bennett's wallabies for this foreseeable future? It does seem a bit of a waste.
Thanks Sooty Mangabey , as I said , no there are no further plans for that area in the foreseable future unfortunately. The Roos wont be moving and the Emus may leave the collection in due course. I agree , the area does seem "unfinished", the plans had to be scrapped due to money being used elsewhere. Z.
I would take the "ten-year" plan" with a pinch of salt , it might happen but then again!! It is the same with the "Boimes", believe it when you see it! Back in 1995/96 there was a "ten-year plan" to open the valley field as an "african Bowl exhibit"! It has happened at last , a little behind schedule and with a slightly different plan but still! As we are constantly told "nothing is set in stone"!! Z.
