A revamp of the former Scarlet Ibis and Shorebirds aviaries.

The park's large collection of Scarlet Ibis and Roseate Spoonbills (around two hundred individuals for each species) are now spread over both aviaries. Other species currently housed here are Eurasian white spoonbill, Oriental white ibis, hammerkop, rufous night heron and magpie goose.

The viewing gallery has much improved ventilation and no longer reeks of fish.

I'm a little confused. Are all species in the aviaries on both sides of the corridor now? Or are there different species compositions on either side? No cormorants? What is in the Spoonbill Aviary now? Peruvian Pelicans?

The scarlet ibis, spoonbills and rufous night herons are in both aviaries.

The cormorants are now at Swan Lake and Waterfall Aviary. Only the 4 Peruvian pelicans remain in the old spoonbill aviary. I think they will be moved out soon, that aviary is in poor condition and will either be refurbished or demolished.

did they join aviaries up over the corridor so it is one aviary? Or are they still two separate aviaries?

Thanks Zooish. There seems to be fewer species here than previously, didn't there used to be gulls or terns and storks too? The map online shows that these aviaries have been "re-branded" as the Wetlands, and the old Wetlands renamed Saddlebill after its main inhabitant. Did they move that big plank that says "Wetlands" over?

Where do you think the Peruvian Pelicans will end up? With the other Pelicans, into the new Wetlands, or somewhere else?

The exhibit re-opened about a week ago, so more species will be added along the way. Yes the old Shorebirds aviary had milky storks and gulls. The plank is still sitting at the saddlebill exhibit! :D

The Peruvians might move into Wetlands after the plants settle in. There doesn't seem to be any intention of moving them to Pelican Cove.

Thanks Zooish. I wonder if they could create a new South American Coast exhibit using the African Penguin exhibit near the entrance - move the Humboldt Penguins outside and add the Peruvian Pelicans. Possibly there would be issues with that, but it would be an interesting exhibit. Especially if they netted it and added Inca Terns.
