White-bellied Green Pigeons (Treron sieboldii)

Kasugayama Park (Katata, Honshu), March 2025
This species must be much more cold-tolerant than I thought! Do you recall what the weather conditions were like that day? It looks cold, but maybe it was just cloudy!

@Summer Tanager yes, it was cold and raining. It is weird seeing Treron outside of the tropics! The other photo was taken at Minoh Park which is on the outskirts of Osaka (the photo above is at Katata which is near Osaka). Minoh Park is a forested hill range and on one of the days I was there it was snowing.

@Chlidonias Thank you for the information! Because I've never been to Japan, I don't have a good understanding of how cool or warm it is. And, I know it's a long (north to south) chain of islands with a corresponding degree of variation between islands. The north island (Hokkaido) seems very cold in the winter from the photos that I've seen, but I don't have a good sense for the southern islands. One of my daughters participated in a college study abroad in Nagoya in the 2000, but was only there from early January through mid-March of 2000 before the COVID pandemic closed the campus and forced the international students home. My impression is that Nagoya was cooler than I thought and maybe something similar to Portland of Seattle in the U.S. Thank you again
