I believe Dudley may have exhibited White-lipped Peccaries before, circa 1960's. This group came from the Cotswold Wildlife Park, which has bred a number of them in recent years. AFAIK Cotswold divided their group but still have some.
Clinton Keeling supplies information on them in "They Live at the Castle". He says a pair was obtained that bred well following an analysis of their diet that revealed the need for copper. A large group of animals resulted but in time the small gene pool led to births becoming fewer and eventually ending so the group was destined to die out.
Cotswold disposed off all their peccary some time ago , repacing them with warty pigs . I think Tayto Park in Ireland also received some of the peccary . Dudley do not seem to be breeding them .
I cannot understand Cotswold getting rid of its Peccaries and Dudley apparently not going in for breeding. Why do so many zoos these days appear to be embarrassed by having something different and therefore more interesting? I'd much rather see a White-lipped Peccary than a Visayan Warty Pig (although both would be better still).
