I was pleased to see these animals out in a large paddock for the first time; they were in the enclosure next to the Somali wild ass. (On all the other occasions I've seen them at Marwell they’ve been on the hardstand adjacent to the Chapman’s zebra enclosure.)
........Tim- is there just the pair again currently? Does that mean this is where Trotters/Lake District Wildlife sourced their replacement animal from?
I only saw these two white-tailed gnus on my recent visit which tallies with the latest Marwell Animal Inventory; this records that there were just a pair as at 31st December 2012. It seems a very reasonable assumption that the youngster was sent to Trotters but I don’t know for certain.
Thanks for the kind comments about the photograph; much appreciated – although, as has been previously pointed out, the fence does spoil the picture somewhat!
It does, however not much you could have done about that, plus the chances of getting the same shot later without the fence in the background are slim.
you mean small? If I had to choose I'd rather see big enclosures with obvious fences than little platforms with stage dressing around them to try and disguise how small they are.
