So the polar bear exhibit is entirely indoors? It occurs to me that polar bears are probably one species that without a doubt need an enormous amount of space, and access to the great outdoors.
Yeah, but in humid Orlando florida, the great outdoors aren't very pleasant for a polar bear. I totally understand having this exhibit being entirely climate-controlled.
Snowleopard, yes the exhibit is entirely indoors, and its above-water area is too small for the bears, their website says they have two but I only saw one at a time. They have a nice large pool however. It is certainly atmospheric for visitors inside to transport them to another place, but I think it would be much better if it was naturally lit or had a retractable roof. The version of this attraction in SeaWorld San Diego has an open-air top which is much better I think. Looking at a satellite image of the facility, it appears that they may have small outdoor holding areas but it is too hard to tell for sure. Anyone know more?
@Ituri My short hand answer is, yes. If I spent 24/7 indoors I would vary the room temperature and humidity even more.
It is also nice to have an indoor environment with different microclimates to accommodate different activities. For example, I wouldn't want the gym I visit to be the same temperature as my bedroom. After engaging in vigorous sports I like to move to a cooler area indoors and gradually move back into a warmer environment as my activity levels decrease.
