Wildbase Recovery - NZ Pigeon and North Island Kaka

July 2021
Wildbase Recovery is a rehabilitation centre for native NZ birds at the Victoria Esplanade Gardens in Palmerston North (in the lower North Island). Many species can be viewed here during their recovery (before release) and it also houses some permanent residents. It is free to visit.

These birds are permanent residents of their walk-through aviary. The photo also coincidentally illustrates how big NZ Pigeons are.
