This is a picture of a portion of the currently empty cave exhibit. The area used to contain small habitats for various cave denizens - cave crayfish, blind cavefish, salamanders, etc., as well as some interesting interactive educational exhibits on cave features - stalagmites, flowstones, curtains, etc. Unfortunately, the animal exhibits have been vacant for several years and, worse, in the recent "renovation" from the North American Living Museum to The Wildlife Trek, the zoo removed the remaining educational exhibits. All that is left now is a dimly lit area to walk through with no real purpose. I'm hopeful that the Zoo will see fit to return to this area in the near future and revitalize it into the outstanding exhibit that it once was and still has the potential to be.
