I was surprised to see how wild they have let the exhibit go. Its just full of daisies or something that looks like daisies. I liked it better well mowed. I couldnt find the kangaroos.

yeah, I've been surprised that the field hasn't been kept cut. It looks abandoned the way it is now. Kangaroos are usually hiding somewhere in the back.

Does anyone know if the zoo has plans to reopen the walk through section of this exhibit? I used to love getting up close to kangaroos, wallabies and emus.

Your description is bang on. It does look abandoned. With all the flowers it looks overrun and then with the kangaroos always resting at the back the only sign of life was this one emu.

I would love to have the walkthrough reopen. I had one chance to go through but didnt realize the opportunity existed until after I had left the zoo. I was kicking myself but thought there is always next year... sadly for me there wasnt. It wouldnt take much to reopen it. Change the path and put in a new exit point. At least then we would have a chance to see the kangaroos.

Now that I know Fred was put down this emu has to be Wilma. He was put down sometime in June. I dont know the reason why.

Because the exhibit's abandoned feel I just assumed that Fred was somewhere else hidden away by the flowers. I barely saw the kangaroos so I figured he was just well placed. Another good reason to cut the grass... so we can see whats in the exhibit.

I don't know what the enclosure looks like as a whole, but from this photo it looks great! It doesn't look abandoned, it looks good.

I agree,it looks beautiful, but maybe that's because we're not seeing the exhibit as a whole? Still,I like it.

The flowers are nice but they do present a problem to guests looking for the animals. It would be easy for those who dont know what they are looking for to just walk right past and not realize there are animals in there.

Absolutely agree, but of course exhibits with mowed grass look so much more natural?!

You have a point there about it not looking as natural mowed. There needs to be a bit more of a happy blend though because people like to be able to find the animals. The exhibit is was designed with a walkthrough on a hill and was extremely visible from 3 sides. Now the walkthrough is gone thanks to the arrival of the pandas and viewing spots have decreased significantly. There is a small section by the pavilion and you might get lucky as you go by on the zoomobile. The flowers wouldnt have been a problem before 2012/2013. Unfortunately now its just another thing decreasing the odds of seeing anything.
