Ya, I know. They used to have a really big indoor cage but then they were moved to this one. I guess there old cage is know used for a large Troop of Golden Lion Tamarin including babies. I don't think denver is even going to get ride of this cage because it is part of there history.
Thats a bad idea. Like many zoo exhibits (cages, pits, and grottos) this should be either destroyed or converted to something useful, such as an outdoor seating area.
I don't know. I like the idea but I think many zoos should leave there old barred and concrete cages so they can open them up to the public. I know that I would really like to see the old cages how the keepers did.
A few years back the Zoo published plans for a new North American exhibit that included re-use of the old holding building seen here as a back-of-house support area for wolverines and other small mammals, with new habitat areas to be developed where the outdoor cages are now. I don't think the Denver Zoo has any special love for these "historic" but extremely dated cages. It is weird to see beautiful Wolf's guenons here, given the much better exhibits in the nearby "Primate Panorama."
Thanxs for mentioning that Reduakari. I have some recollection of seeing a overview of what you described in a Master Plan sign. I have forgotten all about the other plans in the zoo when I herd of Asian Tropics and Asian Temperate Forest. I have also herd that When the Elephants and Tapirs leave the Pachyderm House they will join the 4 cages to make two bigger ones for the Nile Hippo and Black Rhino.
