Woolly monkey

Enclosure next to marmoset range, 29th July 2019
Lagothrix lagotricha. Adult male. It was a great pleasure to watch the three group of woollies at Monkey World - they seem to do very well with these difficult monkeys.

Been looking forward to these since you posted about having visited and oh boy they are just as good as I was expecting. :D

@DelacoursLangur I'm not sure whether there is a single reason. Historically they were kept in several zoos and bred in a few, but the groups dwindled and eventually died out. There seems to have be a preponderance of males - that may be just bad luck, but I have never heard another explanation. The ones at Monkey World are kept in fairly large groups, in large enclosures with natural woodland and the keepers are very experienced - which seem to be important factors.
