@Ebirah766 As said in the comment above, it is not that uncommon actually even for large zoos to have only one or two veterinarians on staff. I believe that is quite common practice.
From what I've heard not even all large(r) zoos have full-time on-staff veterinarians, some only have them part-time or use consultant veterinarians.
I don't think that means in any way that animals wouldn't be receiving the best care.
@Ebirah766@KevinB In theory a good zoo would not have many animals in constant need of medical assistance so a large veterinary staff would be unnecessary. I agree that the presence of only two vets does not imply that the animals aren't receiving the best care- the small barren bird cages and roller coasters passing next to their heads imply they aren't receiving the best care
@ThylacineAlive I do believe that zoo vets (and keepers) are also involved in a great deal of preventive care to keep animals from getting sick as much as possible in the first place.
I'm not sure what the small cages and roller coasters thing means, but I presume it refers to what kind of facility this is?
Yes, this is one of those amusement park zoos that are occasionally seen in America. While many try to separate their animals from the rides where possible, this zoo makes a habit of building them around, over, or even through the enclosures. They also have a lot of smaller bird cages, several of which are lacking much of anything aside from a perch branch.
I'm not a fan of combining a zoo and an amusement park in the same facilitity and I don't think it's a good idea. Hearing about this place I guess does nothing to counter that view, on the contrary...
Here in Europe we do also have places that mix zoo and amusement park aspects. I myself visited one myself last year (Mondo Verde in the Netherlands, I am currently posting the pictures from that visit) that called itself a "family park" and was a hodgepodge of a zoo, a small-scale amusement park and botanical/themed gardens. It was kind of a shabby place with some questionable exhibits and aspects.
@KevinB As @Ebirah766 says, it can work if separated properly. ZooAmerica is a very good example of this as the zoo is completely separated next door to the amusement that owns it.
