Yellow-backed Duiker

July 2009 - There is a new pair that arrived to the zoo recently and is now on exhibit with the Bongos. The zoo is home to three species of Duikers: Black, Red-flanked, and now Yellow-backed duikers.

I wish the zoo would bring Jentink's and Zebra duikers back, although I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Blackduiker

I wish the zoo would bring Jentink's and Zebra duikers back, although I don't see that happening anytime soon.

If I remember correctly, the Jentink's were very hard to see but the Zebra Duikers were a real gem. They were in the roundhouse enclosure that now holds Red-flanked Duikers. The Red-flanked were right across from them where the Black Duikers now reside, as well as their enclosure shared with the Okapis. I believe the Zebra and Red-flanked were LA's first two Duiker species ever displayed here. Right around the same time we received
our first pair of Bongos, which were exhibited in the current Okapi enclosure. This was mid or late '70s.

I love Duikers!
