Poicephalus flavifrons

Very, very nice sighting Maguari. I looked for this species a fair amount in Ethiopia and it was one of the ones that I had a good chance of seeing but didn't. Is this subspecies aurantiiceps or flavifrons?
:)

We only saw them at Bishangari but from all accounts this little bit of beach on the shores of Lake Langano is a particularly reliable site for them. There's another shot here: http://www.zoochat.com/1001/yellow-fronted-parrot-bishangari-lodge-14-a-393893/

I think if we recognise two subspecies it would be the nominate here (and the second subspecies would be aurantiiceps) - IOC regard it as monotypic anyway!

Very, very rare in captivity ! Only 2 known records to me :
Zoo Berlin 1925 ( 1 specimen )
Vienna ( a pair which only lived for a few months )

Indeed - I don't think any are kept currently at all.

(As an aside, one of the 'downsides' of having been to Walsrode a couple of times and to Loro Parque is that seeing a new parrot species gets to be a real rarity! There were very good-sized flocks of these and they were a joy to see in every respect.)
