Great pictures of the tapirs, possibly my favourite animals at London but not always the easiest to see. The most active I've ever seen the male is in the evening from outside the zoo, running around his enclosure by Tiger Territory.
Yes, I agree with you; the Malayan tapirs are probably my favourite species currently at London Zoo too. Unfortunately, I also agree with you that it is often hard to see them; I visited the zoo a number of times this summer but, frustratingly, never saw the youngster whilst he still had the spotted juvenile colouration.
However, both the adult female and her calf were clearly visible on Sunday afternoon. The young one was extremely active; he kept swimming in the moat then diving underwater and surfacing with a mouthful of aquatic vegetation.
