Zambian Sable Antelope ((Hippotragus niger kirkii)

Kafue NP, Nov 2019
How is the status of this species in Zambia? I saw one in the outskirts of Kruger and was told by the ranger it was a quite rare species in South Africa and that we were lucky to see it.

@AWP I stayed at Kasabushi Camp in Kafue and one of the game drive roads nearby is called the "Sable Loop." However, during 4 different game drives I only saw this one lone Sable which was very skittish. Seems their numbers weren't substantial in that part of Kafue at least. And not present at all in South Luangwa NP.
