Right, but in Australia, the species right here we are looking at is referred to as the Leopard Shark, which given the spots in its adult coloring, makes more sense really.

What do you call an actual leopard shark? :') no wonder i get confused with shark names :')

to Americans the name leopard shark refers to Triakis semifasciata which has completely un-leopard-like saddle markings. The species is only found in western American waters.

I only ever know Stegostoma fasciatum as the leopard shark. I know its also called zebra shark but only the young are banded - albeit very strikingly so! The adults (as pictured above) seem much more deserving of the name leopard shark than the American Triakis.

So I propose we rename Triakis semifasciata to the "clouded leopard shark" ;)
