Given that (to the best of my knowledge) it is the only Zoe’s imperial pigeon on exhibit in a zoo outside S.E. Asia, it is strange that this animal is not publicised more.
The very same. It hid from me and devilfish last time but I've got a flying RP visit pencilled in on the way back from Vietnam and this bird will be one of my priorities!
(I have seen it and photographed it (poorly) before, but given its rarity you never know when it will be your last chance)
Maybe I’ve just been lucky, but I’ve seldom known this pigeon to hide so have rarely experienced any difficulty in seeing it on my visits to London Zoo; it is generally quite obvious, sitting peacefully on its favourite perch.
However I was especially fortunate on this occasion as it was posing perfectly in the (surprisingly bright) February sunshine. It was unusually active this time too and aggressively chased away a turaco that temporarily occupied its normal perch.
(Many thanks too to both ‘Blackduiker’ and ‘Maguari’ for their kind comments about my photograph.)
