A view into the exhibit for golden-headed lion tamarins (Leontopithecus chrysomelas) and pygmy marmosets (Callithrix pygmaea) by the Ape House in ZOO Antwerpen. This little indoor exhibit is located between the chimpanzees and gorillas and can only be viewed from the outside.
The golden-headed lion tamarin is one of the flagship species of the KMDA who also manages the EEP programme and there are no less than four separate exhibits for this species inside the zoo.
The Ape House was built in 1959 in typical 50es style with moated outdoor exhibits and originally housed bonobos, gorillas and orangutans. In 1986 the whole house was renovated and the moats removed to be replaced by covered outdoor exhibits.
