ZOO Antwerpen - Monkey House (Javan langur)

  • Media owner Toddy

The exhibit for Javan langurs (Trachypithecus auratus auratus) inside the Monkey House in ZOO Antwerpen. This exhibit is shaped like an Asian temple and used to house Hanuman langurs (Semnopithecus entellus) until quite recently. The langurs have this exhibit as well as a small side room.

The Monkey House was opened in 1978 replacing an even older building on the same site. The 13 species of primates and 2 species of xenarthra inhabiting the house all have all-indoor exhibits.

This is by far the nicest monkey exhibit in Antwerp, it is not especially the best for the monkeys, but the design is amazing!

till 2009 it housed owl-faced guenons, they changed exhibit with the Hanuman langurs, which are now phased out....
