The Aquarium Berlin is the oldest aquarium in germany, opened in 1913, it has one of the biggest collection of species, around 880 diffrent species fish, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates.

Altough it is that old and it has no giant tanks as like as some aquariums in the USA or Japan, it is one of the best, most fascinating and most famous Aquariums in the World.

In 1983, it got an expansion with five tanks, the Landscape Aquarium. These tanks were enlarged a few years ago. Two bigger tanks for sharks ( the former turtle tank; they were released into the wild a couple of years ago ) and rays were included to the Landscape Aquarium.

There excist some plans for another expansion with a giant shark tank since a few years, but its not sure if it is realisable, because it would be very expensive to build it.

So everyone whos coming to Berlin, plan a whole day for the aquarium, if you're interested in aquariums also.

Enyoy your little pictured tour through the Aquarium !

In August this famous building will celebrate its centenary, and was the Iguanodon there from the very beginning? Also, is the pile of rubble (shown in another photo on this site) part of a memorial tribute to WWII or is it a kind of statue?

I think the rubble is actually a water feature. Hidden among/ imprinted on the slate are interesting fossil sculptures.
