I was wondering the same thing, unfortunate about dottie though, what was the main cause of death? This was the first incident that I found in a zoo that a pregnant elephant died.
They did finish the "enhancements." They filled in the shallow moats with tall concrete planters. They also reopened the old demo yard next to the Nathans Hot Dog stand. In addition, they only fill the pool 3/4 full to help conserve water. Now that the drought is officially over, that might change.
According to the preliminary necropsy, Dottie died of Pneumonia, but a final report hasn't been published yet to my knowledge.
