Well, I had my plan all set to photograph the new iberian lynx exhibit. Since Sevilla is one of my favorite cities I booked three nights there (Sunday night through Tuesday night), leaving me all day Monday and Tuesday. Monday I would take the one hour train ride to Jerez De La Frontera to visit Zoo Jerez, then spend Tuesday relaxing in Sevilla.
So I got up early Monday, walked to the train station, caught the one hour train to Jerez, walked to the corner bus stop, waited 20 minutes or so for the bus, took the 45 minute bus ride to the zoo and arrived at the entrance at 10:03am. The zoo opens at 10am.
When I arrived, though, it was shuttered like this. I even asked the bus driver before I got off if this is the entrance and he said yes. So I walked up and looked for the way to get in and looked at the sign when two local teenagers happened to walk by. They informed me that the zoo is closed on Mondays!
So I caught the next bus back, stopping at the Alcazar (old fortress) along the way for a short walk so the trip down would not be a complete waste. Then on Tuesday instead of sleeping in (as I would have liked) I repeated the entire process, arriving at exactly 10am and thankfully the zoo was open.
As they say in Spain, "Hay que sufrir para merecer". All zoochaters are waiting for your iberian lynx pictures, so you have also suffered so that we all could gain. How more iberian could this become ? ( My grandfather was from spain ).
I believe the Big Zoos (with great apes, elephants, felines...) are open all days of the year. That´s the case of Lisbon, Barcelona and Madrid.
I have no clue about French Zoos, i just know some things about this little piece of land that is Portugal and Spain.
