Zoo Entrance

Aug. 13th, 2010.
I find it fascinating to reflect on how zoos cope with progress. Dallas Zoo has grown in leaps and bounds during the past decade and visitors have responded with 6 consecutive years of record-breaking attendance numbers culminating in the zoo passing the one-million mark in 2015. At that year's "Dollar Day" a staggering 41, 422 guests crammed into the facility...another all-time record.

With a bolstered herd of African Elephants and a newborn to add to the mix there is surely going to be a 7th consecutive year of record-breaking attendance in 2016. Then there is the expensive new Nile Hippo complex opening in 2017 and the sky is the limit for this already stellar zoo. Can the establishment cope with the steady increase in visitors? Are there enough drinking fountains, restrooms, cafes, etc? Can the main entrance handle the hordes of visitors that will be pouring through the gates?
