Zoo Jihlava 0/2016: Cat House Sumatran tiger enclosure

Zoo Jihlava has a huge collection of wild cats. In addition to those in the cat house, the zoo also keeps European lynxes, sand cats in the Africa house, snow leopards and Persian leopards in the Himalayas area, and caracal, Pallas\' cat, jungle cat and European wild cat.

That enclosure is WAY too small !!

Yes, all the enclosure in the cat house are...

Hopefully one day the number of species will be reduced and enclosures will be merged to make bigger ones...

Not only small but clearly unacceptable for an animal that lives its life on grass/soft surface.

Hopefully this place will not think about getting anymore big cats until they have the facillities to care for them in half decent surroundings....

This equates to locking the owner of this place in a shoe cupboard. Surely life must have progressed further than this in the Czech Republic !!

What on Earth does that mean? I've seen some dreadful exhibits on the Isle of Wight; I don't use that to infer how "progressed" life is there.

I am not from the Isle Of Wight, which is regardless. This zoo MUST rank amongst the worst in Europe. This harks back to the days of Chessington during the 70's.

None of which (ill-fitting, over-used and misattributed "Gandhi" quote included) suggests how the conditions in one zoo, as you perceive them, reflects a country's level of "progress".

I would suggest you haven't visited too many of the less-than-stellar European collections if you think Jihlava ranks among the worst.

Jihlava is far from the worst zoo. It has some really good parts as well. (did you see the gibbon enclosure for exaple?)
Also, the bad parts are not the worst enclosures for the species kept there. It can be much worse.

Except for the pygmy hippo indoor enclosure. That couldn't get any worse as it is now. Couldn't take a pic because of moisture on the windows, but its extremely small.
