The wolves, tigers, and snow leopards are the stars during zoo lights. Most animals are out, but not all exhibits have enough ambient lighting for good viewing. Sometimes you can get a good view of the seals, polar bears, Dall sheep, and yaks.
Thanks. That would be cool to see and according to zoo website ZooLights runs into early March. Unfortunately, flights from Tucson are way too expensive.
I enjoyed the chapter in Zoos of the Southwest about various zoos remaining open through twilight on certain nights. I hope this is an ongoing trend. Early mornings in zoos can be magical...but the evenings really seem to provide some very nice viewing. Alaska Zoo started zoo lights a few years ago and restricted them to Christmas week and during the Fur Rondy. This season they are running the event (on weekends at least) throughout the winter. The cats are very active and only a card formating failure has spared Zoo Chatters from a couple dozen Tiger, Lynx, and Snow Leopard photos. Alaska Zoo is also open until 9pm during the Summer months and the Sunlighted nights of that season are another wonderful time to visit this small Zoo.
