Thanks for sharing! This map looks deceptively sparse, almost like a modern day zoo; but it’s apparent they crammed a lot in. The bear symbol for example represents bears, hyena and hunting dogs in adjacent exhibits; and the chimpanzee also represents a sizeable colony of orangutans.
Big cats aren’t listed beyond an additional mention of lions and tigers, but I can confirm Persian leopard were among them, with the zoo successfully breeding a litter of twins at year (1987).
Thanks for the information. The current zoo looks almost unrecognizable from how it appeared in 1987, although the general shape is still there as well as the bodies of water.
@Newzooboy Like you, I was still relatively young in the 1980s and so my memory of Perth Zoo is hazy. (I didn't post extensive reviews via 'Snowleopard Road Trips' back then). I lived in Australia from early 1986 to mid 1988 and so the map I uploaded is from that time period.
@Jayden8763 Perth Zoo had Persian leopards, but they were golden (as were all the Persian leopards in the region). Melanisim is widely observed in the Indian and Indochinese subspecies of leopard (but not Persian).
