I feel very much that its closure was necessary, with how much it cost the Society... but even 2 years after its closure I do miss Bristol Zoo at Clifton. It was one of only two surviving 'inner city' zoos in the UK with London its survivor, but it was far smaller even than London. But still it managed to leave an impression on myself; if only for how many 'cool animals' the nocturne house had. It was some very good exhibitry and pedagogy on display... and I would say it was where London is today, or at least was 20 years ago today. It was showing how the inner city zoo could move out of the times before; and Bristol, being historically a port-city, used its zoo to display animals from the countries of importation in prior centuries; and when it moved into the new millennium, it utilised its legacy to benefit the countries' biodiversities themselves as well as their fauna. It didn't have the room for rhinos or an elephant; but had plenty of room for high-grade conservation work.
I do miss Bristol Zoo at Clifton; which I visited in 2017, 2018 and 2022. But I am glad to see the great work continue at the new Zoo Project at Cribbs; and intend on going there some point in the future. I recall I made plans to visit in the year 2024... but speaking now it's unlikely to happen this year. But I look forward to seeing it myself!
