Looking at the Taronga Zoo map I'd have to guess that this zoo has spent more money in the past decade than just about any other zoo on the planet. The entire lower section of the zoo has been renovated/expanded. I've only ever visited once in my life (and was quite impressed) but I feel as if the zoo has been under constant construction for the past 10 years.
Many people used to debate between Melbourne and Taronga for the position of Australia's premier zoo, but the $250 million or so that Taronga has spent in the past decade has emphatically moved that zoo past Melbourne's.
