This opened a while ago now, and while I never saw the old cage in person, I'm guessing this is infinitely better. It is located next to the bongos, on what was most recently a Kangaroo enclosure I think. In some ways it would be better to relocate this species to Werribee though, and I wonder if they might do this in the long-term when space is needed for other species.

It used to be the bongos exhibit. They moved to a smaller exhibit next door and the baboons got their space. There used to be kangaroos where the nursery and water recycling building are.

Ah OK. I was going off this map (attached below) which I think is from 2008, and shows kangaroos where the baboons now are, perhaps this pre-dates the bongos? For Pertinax - the exhibit in question is the one directly above the zebras on the map below.

Oh wow, I forgot about that. Bongos did move into that area after the kangaroos but before the baboons. This particular kangaroo walk-through was pretty short lived.

That is the only Melbourne Zoo map I have with me that pre-dates the baboons relocation. I try to download maps of big zoos regularly so I can look back and see how they have changed, but I obviously failed to get any Melbourne maps for quite a while!
