Calling all ZooChatters far and wide! Tis' the season to look back on the last year and celebrate all of the work done by site contributors in 2025, and a chance for one lucky zoo nerd to win those coveted digital brownie points. 2025 has been a busy year for ZooChat with tons of engaging, informative, and entertaining reports about a motley of topics. A brief rundown of the rules for any newcomers:

1.) On this thread, post the titles of exactly three threads (and the users that created them) that you think deserve to be considered for Thread of the Year. Any type of thread is eligible for nomination: news, discussion, travel, lists, history, speculative design, etc. It just has to have been created between December 15th, 2024 and December 15th, 2025.

2.) You cannot submit your own thread to be nominated. However, if your thread is within the top contenders you are welcome to vote for it if you choose.

3.) When the first round nominations have concluded, the top five threads that received the most nominations will be entered into a poll. In the event two or more threads tie for the fifth most nominations, both threads will be included in the final poll.

4.) Absolutely no privately soliciting votes under any circumstances. If you are reported doing so, it will result in your nominations being disregarded and your thread becoming ineligible for nomination. Repeat offenders will be banned from participation in the future. With that said, you can campaign publicly for any thread you think deserves to be given a nomination if you’d like.

The nomination period will end on December 15th at 11:59 PM Chicago Time. From there a separate thread will be created to vote for the winner between the selected finalists. Whatever thread has the most votes at 11:59 PM Chicago Time on December 31st will win the coveted title of 2025 ZooChat Thread of the Year. Don't hesitate to ask for any further clarifications if needed and send in your selections. Best of luck to all! :)

(I'm first to nominate again?!)
Another year to an end, another TOTY competition, and only one more year before the long-awaited 10-year champions faceoff. Last year's competition wasn't really intense, we had a seemingly obvious winner right from the get go, but this year seems to be a lot more heated in terms of masterpiece threads that have a shot at winning! Either way, it was another amazing year on ZooChat, and this was a tough decision ngl but I think I've got to go with:
1. A Zoo Man's Notebook, 2025 by @Aardwolf

2. Semester Abroad: Pachyderm Pro Goes to Europe by @pachyderm pro

3. Chlidonias presents: Bustralia by @Chlidonias

Here’s to the three entries I’ve considered for this year. I’m hoping for option 2 to win overall, but let’s not kid ourselves right away (just in case)!! ;):D

1. Aardwolf’s A Zoo Man's Notebook, 2025

2. pachyderm pro’s Semester Abroad: Pachyderm Pro Goes to Europe

3. snowleopard’s Snowleopard's 2024 Road Trip: Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore & Indonesia

You are ahead of me! These are my picks too...

1. Aardwolf’s A Zoo Man's Notebook, 2025

2. pachyderm pro’s Semester Abroad: Pachyderm Pro Goes to Europe

3. snowleopard’s Snowleopard's 2024 Road Trip: Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore & Indonesia

By far my favourite ZooChat threads are the travel ones where nerds review zoos, which is why for me the thread of the year was this one with more than 30 zoos profiled. If I ever venture to Poland or Eastern Germany, which is a distinct possibility, then this thread will prove to be invaluable.

1- Philippine eagle spotted above Poland and Eastern Germany - ZooChat by @Philipine eagle

This next thread won't be quite as comprehensive, but it will still be fantastic when it's finished and there will likely be at least 20 zoos profiled and all from a 'North American in Europe' perspective. I can relate to the wonders of seeing primate walk-throughs and world-class facilities in all directions for the first time.

2- Semester Abroad: Pachyderm Pro Goes to Europe - ZooChat by @pachyderm pro

And I suspect that the following thread might possibly be the winner for 2025...but one never knows! It contains zero zoo reviews but instead has a lot of valuable information for zookeepers and in fact would work even better in book form. Time to seek out a publisher? ;)

3- A Zoo Man's Notebook, 2025 - ZooChat by @Aardwolf
