Zoo Dvorec Zoo Dvorec news

A group of 6 White-cheeked turacos (Menelikornis leucotis) arrived and are under quarantine. They are part of the hundreds of birds seized in west Slovakia in summer this year (already reffered in Prague zoo news thread).

The article mentions that most Czech zoos offered spare room to accept birds from this confiscation, some birds went also to Austria. Dvorec expects to receive more birds (no detail about species).

Where the hell from does a Zoo like Dvorec get a Snow Leopard?
Dvorec claims they got it from Artenschutzzentrum Grasleben in Germany and that the leopard will stay at the zoo only for a short time. Then it should be transferred to a rescue centre in India. They didn't specify which one though...?

Rescue Centre is a euphemism for a fossil fuel refinery trillionaire in Jamnagar, India. He has established a new zoo with big money and all sorts of wild and exotic animals in preposterous numbers to his "rescue centre" in Jamnagar in Gujarat State.

This facility already imported 2.2 Snow leopards from Germany and 1.0 from a non-specified Indian zoo (I am hard guessing ... this male may have been transferred out of Padmaja Naidu Zoo in Darjeeling (the CZA hub breeding facility for Snow leopard in India).

The facility is officially known as the Greens Zoological Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre and its Director is a former CZA staff member (Evaluation and Monitoring Officer and Chief Scientist) , Dr. Brij Kishor Gupta.

Didn't know that, thank you!

A news species kept - a group of Piapiacs (Ptilostomus afer). They should go on show during main season. (unless Dvur puts theirs on show, Dvorec will be the only place to reliably see this species in Europe according to ZTL).

Piapiacs are definitely an exciting addition, but I believe they should still be visible at Walsrode as well

Zebra cobras (Naja nigricincta) bred - 21 babies hatched.

The zoo finished new bird aviaries (where previously black-backed jackal lived) and moved white-cheeked turacos, violet turacos and piapiacs there. So piapiacs are officialy on show. Jackal moved somewhere near spoted hyenas.

New hyraxes arrived and sit in quarantine. Based on a pic, maybe yellow-spotted rock hyrax?

A new species - a pair of Yellow-bellied green-pigeons (Treron waalia) from Dvur Kralove is on show - mixed with violet turacos and superb starlings.

Zoo Dvorec has rescued female Hausa genet from private owner who held her in very bad conditions. Genet bit its own tail and claws because of stress, and tail had to be amputated to prevent further issues. She is recovering quite well. Zoo plans to put her together with their male, and hopes that his company, larger enclosure and more enrichment will prevent her from injuring herself again. Source: Požírala ze stresu sama sebe.
