Newly Discovered/Described Species 2025

A new species of jewel-babbler, Ptilorrhoa urissia, is described from camera trap footage in Papua New Guinea. The common name is designated as Hooded Jewel-babbler.

A new species of tinamou, Tinamus resonans, known as the slaty-masked tinamou, has been discovered in the forests of Serro do Divisor, Western Amazonia, Brazil. A preliminary population estimate suggests that there are only 2,106 individuals.
