The Monaco Zoo is home to a single common hippopotamus called Pollux who was born in 1984 and has lived in the zoo since 1989. It is stated that they were unable to find him a new home, as to why he is still remaining in Monaco. A new enclosure for him was created in 2015. (21/07/2024)

I was looking at my photos from a while ago and this caught my eye. I remember taking it and moving on pretty quickly, but looking back on it this idea has a lot of potential. I'll probably try to improve on it next visit, which I hope will be very soon.
I grew up watching Mama Petite and Tadpole, Birmingham Zoo's last common hippos. Mama passed in 2007 and Tadpole last year. I have found information stating they produced roughly 9 calves. I know for sure one calf was female born Easter Day (4/11) 1993 aptly named "Bunny."
