Construction work in South America house

A lot of dismantling has already been done to the interior of the house, which the zoo hope to reopen early next year. Look forward to seeing if they add new species.
  6. Netting in Humboldt Penguin enclosure

    Netting in Humboldt Penguin enclosure

Like in Fota, the penguins at Dublin now have netting above the entire enclosure. This will keep out the herons that used to come into the enclosure, and so reduce the risk of bird flu.
  7. Shelter in African Savanna

    Shelter in African Savanna

Thought this development was too interesting to not take note of. It gives the giraffes and their neighbours another shelter from the elements besides their houses.
  8. Okapi (Okapia johnstoni) mother and calf

Okapi (Okapia johnstoni) mother and calf

Was taken by surprise when I saw this new calf - the third breeding for the zoo.

Wall art in Orangutan Forest dedicated to the memory of orangutans Sibu (died last year in February) and Leonie (died in April this year).

New housing for Amur tigers - 28/10/2024

Don't mind the prams in the picture. It's great that Dublin have another sheltered indoor viewing area, having started this trend with the bongos and African wild dogs (now cheetah).

Red howler monkeys (Alouatta seniculus) at Dublin Zoo - 16/04/2022

Both of the new red howlers that recently arrived from Tierpark Berlin, in a rather rude photo where one of them shows his - should I say - unmentionable body part! I have to say, I was quite surprised when the zoo first announced them, and I think they're a really nice addition to the zoo.
  19. Bangui, western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) at Dublin Zoo - 16/04/2022

Bangui, western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) at Dublin Zoo - 16/04/2022

He just started charging downhill at something that caught the corner of his eye when I took this, startling one of the females in the process.
