How have you noticed a difference in animal care or welfare philosophy in AZA zoos in the US vs EAZA zoos in Europe? Genuinely curious to learn more about the differences from people with experience in either type of facility.
This is a question mostly for keepers but volunteers and guests...
Introduction
Several threads discussed that zoos lack space for breeding programs, and proposed planned extinction of many animal species in European zoos. There are diverse alternatives, for example lobbying for an exemption in laws for zoos to allow limited import of founder animals. Another...
I'm a big fan of Defassa Waterbuck. I know that there are numerous numbers of them in the EAZA but from what I can find, only BGT and the SDWAP still house them. The AZA and most exotics ranches keep Common Waterbuck. Any chance there could be some imports in the future to keep numbers...
I haven't seen these videos posted but here are some from the EAZA youtube channel that I thought I would share.
European zoochatters in particular may find these interesting given that they explain the directions being taken by European zoos and aquariums in terms of ex-situ and in-situ...
What is going on with the EAZA "Silent Forest / Asian Songbird Crisis Campaign" in zoos in Europe ?
I heard fairly recently from a zoochatter that this program may be in trouble and is being discontinued in and across European zoos.
Does anyone know the quarantine arrangements between BIAZA zoos? I'm pretty sure my lecturer mentioned that any transfers between BIAZA establishments don't require a quarantine period upon arrival at the new home, but can anyone confirm this for me?
Had a look online but quarantine is still...

Looking at zootiereliste, there is no record of a historical holding?
Is it down to the nature of this secretive mustelid that makes it a non starter as an exhibit?
Are there any in private hands?
The recent forum on Euthanasia of healthy animals in zoos focused on an animal which was part of an EAZA controlled ex situ conservation breeding programme. Copenhagen zoo justified their action as being a necessary step in maintaining a genetically sound programme.
Linked to the discussion was...
Al Ain zoo in UAE has been accepted as a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA).
Al Ain Zoo is a home to a diverse collection of almost 4,000 animals and is also active in efforts to prevent the extinction of many of these same animals. Locally, in partnership with the...

I've seen some mentions of the EAZA Ape Campaign elsewhere in the ZooChat forums so I thought it might be useful to post some information here. The campaign was launched at the EAZA conference in Verona recently and member zoos have started to sign up over the last couple of weeks. You can find...

They are accused of ignoring the instructions given by the coordinators EEP breeding. Especially for the zebras, hyenas - and...
