    Asian Passage (SDZ speculation)

Inspired by an idea I had regarding the future of Sun Bear Forest, Urban Jungle, and the Bear Canyon Grottos of the San Diego Zoo — edits were made using Procreate.

    Sanya Zoo 2.0

Hello everyone, My last speculative zoo project, the Hainan biodome, met its downfall since I didn't like the direction it was going towards. However, this project will hopefully be more successful, since I will probably plan more instead of improvise on the fly. Anyway, on to the fun stuff...

Are these species in walk-through exhibit and where?

A thread for asking about walk-through exhibits, after the excellent thread of @snowleopard showed a number of zoos keeping sitatunga in walkthrough paddocks. Are there any walk-through exhibits with any gazelle species?

    Bear Canyon - 2024 edition

The new revision of this map, specifically, pays homage to the first iteration made three years ago (2021); which was one of the first detailed maps I ever posted for ZooChat.
  6. Patagonia: The Whispering Land

    Patagonia: The Whispering Land

Like Arctic Passage, this map is not affiliated with my exhibit showcase thread; but I nonetheless wanted to experiment my map-making skills with this original design.

What do you think is the next step in zoo innovation?

From carnivore grottoes, to Hagenbeck panoramas, to walkthrough exhibits, and now more recent developments like animal walkways (e.g Zoo360) and predator/prey displays. Zoo exhibition and animal enclosures has come very far from the tiny, barren cages commonly seen in the past. What do you think...

    “Kiemga Veldt” Exhibit map

This ambitious complex was created for my exhibit showcase thread; and is designed to successfully display elephants, giraffes, and rhinos together in a way that no zoo has managed to achieve in recent years.

Without using "private vs public" as a reason, what do you think intrinsically separates zoos from other, similar facilities accredited by the AZA?
  13. La Cucaracha

Generic animals in lieu of extinct subspecies?

I've been thinking of using generic ostrich in lieu of Arabian ostrich, and I'm wondering if something similar has been done in zoos already. Afterall, many large animal species exant today, such as lions and leopards, historically had much wider distributions than today.

What are innovative / unique things at zoos?

What you saw in a zoo and think is innovative, groundbreaking, or could be adopted by more zoos? Especially with photos on Zoochat. This can be related to ways to exhibit animals, visitor facilities, education or something else. I am especially curious about things which are not very expensive...

    Tswalu Trek - 2023 edition

Like the previous version that I made two years ago, this so called “pocket exhibit” is a speculative complex that is mostly dedicated to the infamously iconic meerkat, along with a few animals that directly live alongside them.

    Austin the Sengi’s Exhibit Showcase

With the Rembrandt Park Zoo being officially completed. I suppose that some of you might’ve been curious as to what will come next after Rembrandt’s conclusion. Knowing this, I figured that now would be the start of something new, and this thread will be exactly that. Essentially, this thread...

    Arctic Passage - 2023 edition

Seeing how it‘s nearly been three years since the original layout was first made. Since then, I made my decision to remake the entire complex, with a redesigned layout that is highlighted below:

After several threads about zoos with limited space, I imagined a zoo only 5 hectares (12,3 acres) of area, but not missing big animals, not cramped nor impoverished. I limited large animals to relatively few species, but with spacious enclosures similar in size to newly built exhibits in other...
